Divorce Recovery Ministries

Divorce is one of the most difficult life experiences anyone will ever face. The good news is that you do not have to go through it alone. There are others who are willing to help you bear the pain, who have been there themselves and lived through it. You can rebuild a new life.

Additional topics as scheduled

** The group is open to people of all religious perspectives, or none at all. We believe that real healing includes the spirit. And we know that people address the spiritual in many different ways. We encourage particpants to share their journeys, wherever that takes them.

DivorceCare for Kids
(available fall and spring --
next session to begin January 21)

Facilitator: Al LePage and volunteer team

The "DivorceCare for Kids" program is a carefully developed and field-tested program to help young children ages 5-12 heal from the pain of divorce and separation.  It provides children who may be angry, hurt and confused a safe place where they can learn to understand their feelings, express their emotions constructively, feel better, develop coping skills and be introduced to biblical concepts to bring them comfort.
For 13 weeks children become involved in a fun, caring group.  Each session includes games, crafts, an educational video series, role playing, discussion times, journaling, and of course, food.  Workbooks also help children process the divorce or separation to move forward in their lives.
The program is a group-based process for healing, and as such does not provide one-on-one counseling, and is not a Bible study program.  The weekly session topics do help children, though, learn that God’s love strengthens them towards helping them turn their sadness to hope and their anger to joy.  It is an ongoing program and children are welcome at any point in the cycle.
There is a total $10 fee for the entire 13-week cycle for materials, per student, but if this poses any financial difficulty, scholarship money is available.

**Childcare is also available for children less than 5 years old; please RSVP

New Topic cycles began for both groups on September 17, 2008. And... feel free to join the group at any time.

Divorce Recovery Group 2: Fourth Thurdays of the Month

Loving Choices This is a new support group for those who have been through the initial Divorce Recovery program and want to continue to grow and learn with others about becoming a whole person and about being in healthy relationships. We read together Bruce Fisher and Nina Hart's follow-up book to the Rebuilding book, Loving Choices: An Experience in Growing Relationships. We usually add an informal gathering on the second Thursday of the month for conversation and communication practice. Call the church for more information on these gatherings (503-234-6493).

All books are available from the church for $12, or you can purchase them at your local bookstore or your favorite on-line source.
