Music Ministries
"Music is not, in and of itself, worship.
However, music can be a powerful vehicle for our worship."
- Tom Kraeuter
Music is an integral part of worship at Mt. Tabor, for it allows every person to participate in the worship and praise of God. Our church offers many opportunities for people to get involved with our music program, both in our traditional and coffee house worship services. Please contact Heidi Kohne about traditional or choir opportunities and Carley Friesen about non-traditional or praise team opportunities at the church office if you would like to participate or if you have any questions.
Vocal Music Program
We currently offer two choral groups. Both are open for anyone wishing to sing; prior experience or professional singing voice is not required.
Song leaders make up the majority of the Praise Team as well. Any and all are encouraged to join these groups as they desire.
The groups who sing during the Traditional Service have one rehearsal at 10:15 a.m. in Muir Hall, just around the corner from the Sanctuary, on the Sunday that group is leading worship. Repertoire for these groups is quite simple, usually hymns, choruses, or hymn-based works. There is a bulletin board outside the Sanctuary that lists the next “performance” of each group, as well as a listing in each week’s bulletin for everyone to keep track of when their group is singing. Sheet music for the Women’s and Mixed Choruses is available for pickup one week prior to each group’s scheduled Sunday. We encourage you to come any Sunday for the rehearsal and sing for any group that interests you.
Women’s Chorus
An ensemble that regularly sings at the Traditional Service.
Mixed Chorus
This group leads worship periodically and is for both men and women. It is generally assigned for high holy services, such as the traditional Easter service and the late Christmas Eve service.
Praise Team & Coffee House Music
 |
A combination of our Praise Team and local artists provide music for the Coffee House Service. These often include guitars, drums, keyboard, and voices but is always open to new participants and new instruments. Praise Team rehearsal is currently at 8:00am Sunday morning prior to the service. Contact Carley for more information. |

Instruments at Mt. Tabor
Organ
This is the largest and most-prominent instrument in Mt. Tabor’s collection. The builders’ Opus 60, it was hand-constructed in 1978 by Karl Wilhelm & Associates, located in Quebec, Canada. Of German design, it is a completely mechanical action instrument with two manuals, 25 stops, and 30 ranks of pipes, including a zimbelstern. This instrument was Wilhelm’s first detached-console organ. Check in at the church for a brochure about this wonderful instrument.
Pianos
Mt. Tabor houses five pianos under its roof: Two grands, one upright, and two spinets. The sanctuary piano, a Steinway A grand dating from 1923 and completely refurbished by Ed Mashburn and Ken Marts in spring, 2006, is used the most in church services and rehearsals.
Handbells
Mt. Tabor has a four-octave set of Schulmerich handbells and seven bell tables available for use at our services and for special events.
